The result is always counted from position size. Leverage is chosen for a specific idea together with a specialist.
Leverage does not change how the asset moves. It changes the size of the position, so the same price move has a stronger effect relative to your own capital.
The larger the leverage, the larger the position, and the stronger any price move shows up on your own capital — in both directions.
In plain words
Take a real oil scenario. An investor is waiting for the EIA data release on Wednesday at 10:30: analysts forecast a build in inventories, but recent refinery utilization trends suggest the opposite. They open a $20,000 position, putting in $2,000 of their own — that's 10x leverage. The data comes out: inventories fell more than forecast, and WTI gains 4%. The $20,000 position earns $800 — a 40% gain on the $2,000 invested. Without leverage, the same $2,000 would have earned only $80. The tool didn't create the move — it amplified the result of a well-prepared idea tied to a known date.
lets you trade a larger volume than your own funds. You put in $2,000, and the position opens at $20,000. The broker provides the difference.
How the result is calculated. Everything is calculated from the . Oil rose 5% — a $20,000 position delivered $1,000. Your $2,000 grew by 50%. Leverage amplifies the effect of every percent of movement.
What levels exist. From 5x to 100x. 10x leverage is the standard working level for most ideas: your $2,000 becomes a $20,000 position. Higher levels are used selectively, for short events with a known date — a company report, a macro data release, oil inventory data.
The rule of thumb. Leverage is chosen to fit a specific idea, not applied "by default." Any level above 30% of capital is coordinated with an advisor — they calculate the size for your account and set trade boundaries in advance.

WTI crude rises 5%: what different leverage levels return
$0
Available leverage x10. Margin used $6,000, position size $60,000. Without leverage, the same move would give $300
Grey bars are leverage tiers not yet unlocked on your balance: x10 from $20,000, x20 from $30,000, x33 from $50,000, x50 from $70,000, x100 from $100,000. Leverage scales both profit and loss equally: an adverse move deducts the same percentage from margin. Base rule: no more than 30% of margin in use.
Common beginner mistakes
- Defaulting to maximum leverage instead of tailoring it to the idea
- Calculating results from the amount invested rather than the position size
- Opening a leveraged position without predefined follow-up levels
- Using high leverage outside of events with a known date
